On The Road Scampin’

it’s my turn to hit the road in an rv trailer and see amazing sites. thanks for joining me on another adventure as i learn new things about myself and the world.

Picture
nov 29, 2020: i leave my cute condo saying bye to my good neighbors who will have moved by the time i return next year. bye nick and jen, you were awesome neighbors!

jen took photos of me and my new used car. i’m feeling like a high roller since i’ve never owned anything so fancy. except maybe my fancy slow cooker, but that doesn’t have tinted windows or heated rear view mirrors. i followed my gut and played the trade-in, black friday used car game just four days ago and got a good deal on this 2012 suburu outback which will guzzle gas, tow my cute camper trailer, and last forever. there are lots of magical buttons that display things i don’t understand, so the car manual will be my first road trip novel.

i’m off for ashville, north carolina to pick up a super cute 13’ scamp trailer that i bought off facebook from a 70 year old lesbian couple, site unseen. i spoke with the seller and instantly trusted her. no bullshit from this one. and my friend in ashville was so kind to check out the cute trailer and send me photos. this l’il scamp is a winner! i’m excited to meet her.

l’il scamp will tow along behind me and the massive new used car as i ditch a chicago winter and simmer ideas on what’s next for my careers of acting and yoga teaching. also, as much as i dig my neighbors, i’m not comfortable living in my home. so i’ll live wherever me, the new used car, and the new used trailer are, and figure it out when i return to chicago in feb or march of 2021.

it’s like me to push on through and put unnecessary pressure on myself. i want to be different this trip, so i broke up the 10 hour drive from chi-town to north carolina and spent the night in a covid-safe air bnb in lexington, ky. it was $34, i had the whole house to myself, and josh the generous host left a box of donuts. i annoyingly cut 1/4” slice of a thick chocolate number and enjoyed that. four star super host.

11/30/20: oh man, kentucky is pretty when it snows, even at a truck stop. i kept releasing my nervous system and perennially rock hard left shoulder as i drove an unfamiliar car in the thick snow. go go mia, go in the snow, perpetuate having to survive in any condition.

marshall, north carolina is gorgeous and friendly and why oh why is chicago so flat? since i can’t bring chicago to the mountains, i’m honored and grateful to visit chicago friends who have moved here and have settled into a wonderful 60 acre plot they’ve named, “moon mountain”.
